They are a very shy fish during the
day, but they take on a new lease of life when darkness
comes. I use a sink-tip line with either 2 or sometimes
3 flies (depending on wind). My biggest white trout
to date is just over 3 lb, although, I do believe that
I’ve lost bigger! Some big fish enter our rivers in
the middle of May, and it is at this time of year when
I’ve lost a couple of big fish. Then towards the end
of June they start arriving in greater numbers, and
usually continue right till the end of August. At night,
when heading out to fish for white trout, my fly box
always contains this selection of flies. It is also
worth saying that fishermen fish with these flies all
over Ireland to catch white trout.
